Strange Signal terms of use

Strange Signal is a phone app made by Juniper Foundry LLC, a company in Austin, Texas ("we", "us"). These terms are the agreement between you and us for using the app. By installing or using Strange Signal you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The short version

• It's entertainment. Nothing the app shows is evidence of anything paranormal.
• Captures are made with AI. The figures and effects in your captures are generated, not found.
• Use it kindly. Don't use it to scare, trick or harass people, or to capture people who haven't agreed to it.
• Sessions are used up when a session starts. Purchases go through your app store and follow its refund rules.

Who can use it

Strange Signal is for people 13 and older. If you're under 18, please use it with a parent's or guardian's permission.

Entertainment only

Strange Signal reads real sensors on your phone, such as the magnetometer, motion sensors and sound level. The events, anomalies and figures the app shows are created for entertainment. Sensor readings, activity scores, live effects and captures are not evidence of ghosts, spirits or any paranormal activity, and you must not present them as such.

Your photos and captures

You keep the rights you have in the photos the app takes. You give us permission to process each photo only to create your capture: the app sends it through our server to an AI service, which adds the effect. We don't keep the photo on our servers. The privacy policy explains what we collect and how long we keep it.

Captures are saved on your phone. You decide whether to save one to your photo library or share it.

AI-generated content

Every capture is changed by artificial intelligence, and the result can be unexpected. You're responsible for how you share captures. When it matters, make clear that an image was generated, especially if someone could otherwise believe it is real.

If a capture contains something offensive or harmful, use Report this image in the app. We review reports and use them to improve what the app generates.

Acceptable use

Don't use Strange Signal to:

• harass, bully, frighten or deceive anyone, including passing a capture off as real evidence to scare or mislead someone;
• capture or depict people who haven't agreed to it;
• break the law where you are, or infringe anyone else's rights;
• copy, reverse engineer or interfere with the app or our server, or get around usage limits.

We may suspend access for anyone who breaks these rules.

Free sessions and purchases

New installs include a small number of free sessions. You can buy more sessions, and we may offer a subscription. Purchases are handled by your app store (Google Play, or the App Store on iPhone), and the price is shown there before you buy.

• A session is used up when it becomes active, after the short calibration at the start. Closing the app after that point doesn't return the session.
• Each session allows a limited number of captures.
• Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your app store's subscription settings.
• Refunds are handled by your app store under its refund policy. If something went wrong with a purchase, email us and we'll help.
• Sessions have no cash value and can't be transferred.

We may change what's offered and the prices of future purchases. Changes never affect sessions you've already bought.

Availability

Captures depend on AI services run by other companies. They can be slow, limited or unavailable at times, and we may limit use to keep the service running. We may change or stop features, and we may stop offering the app. If we ever stop the service, we'll give notice in the app or on this website first.

Our rights

The app, its design and the Strange Signal name belong to Juniper Foundry LLC. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app on your devices. They don't give you any other rights in it.

No warranty

Strange Signal is provided as-is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about the app beyond those in these terms, including that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that captures will look a particular way.

Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of the app, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for Strange Signal in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, except where the law where you live requires otherwise.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect. Using the app after a change means you accept the new terms.
